Norwalk : Hearing Scheduled Monday on Middle School Proposal
The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District board will hold a public hearing Monday on a proposal to create six new middle schools in a major restructuring of the district. Board members are scheduled to make a final decision May 18.
“We need additional input before we vote,” board member Salvador Ambriz said. “We need to make sure the community is involved.”
Under the plan to create more classes for the district’s enrollment, middle schools would be set up for students in grades six through eight. High schools would be changed from grades eight through 12 to grades nine through 12, and most of the elementary schools would serve children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Elementary schools now serve kindergarten through seventh grade.
The hearing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Norwalk City Council chamber, 12700 Norwalk Blvd.
