SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : It’s Derby Day on ABC, ESPN

The Kentucky Derby will highlight the weekend sports television fare, with the NBA and NHL playoffs and major league baseball also scheduled. Coverage of most events are subject to change or preemption because of unrest in the Los Angeles area.

* Horse Racing: ABC (Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42) will devote 90 minutes to the Kentucky Derby, beginning today at 1:30 p.m. Post time is 2:40 p.m. ESPN will present a two-hour Kentucky Derby special at 10 a.m., with live coverage of the WHAS Stakes, the American Turf Stake and the Capital Holding Mile and delayed coverage of three other races from Churchill Downs.

* Pro Basketball: The Clippers and Utah Jazz are scheduled to resume their Western Conference quarterfinal series at 12:30 p.m. today on NBC (Channels 4, 36 and 39). NBC will also air Game 1 of the Boston Celtics-Cleveland Cavaliers Eastern Conference semifinal at 10 a.m. today. The Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers are scheduled to play at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, following an Eastern Conference game at 10 a.m.

* Pro Hockey: The NHL Stanley Cup playoffs will continue at 4:30 p.m. today on SportsChannel with Game 1 of the Norris Division finals between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. SportsChannel has three games Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. when the Edmonton Oilers visit the Vancouver Canucks. The Patrick or Adams division finals will be joined in progress at 5 p.m., with the Wales Conference final airing delayed at 7:30.

* Baseball: The Angels and Cleveland Indians game will air Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on KTLA Channel 5. CBS (Channels 2 and 8) will air the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves today at 10 a.m. The teams will meet again at 11 a.m. Sunday on cable’s TBS and WWOR. In Sunday’s ESPN game, the Pittsburgh Pirates will play the Houston Astros at 5 p.m.

* Golf: The PGA’s Shell Houston Open will air on a delayed basis at 3 p.m. today and Sunday on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42. The LPGA’s Centel Classic will be seen at 1:30 p.m. today and 10:30 a.m. Sunday on Channels 2 and 8. ESPN will air the Las Vegas Senior Classic at 3 p.m. today and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
