Discounted RTD Bus Ticket Booklets Go on Sale Today

Los Angeles County residents can buy discounted RTD bus tickets starting today, in a program aimed at helping residents who may have financial hardships brought on by the recent riots or the recession.

The tickets, sold in books of 10 for $5, will be available at 286 pass sales locations throughout the county through Sept. 30. Patrons who pay cash as they board a bus will still be charged the standard $1.10 fare

“Offering 50-cent tickets is a major contribution the RTD can make to the recovery of Los Angeles from civil strife and the recession,” said RTD board President Marvin Holen. “This will give those who need it most an assured means of getting to their jobs, to go shopping, go to church and just get on with their lives.”

The program--which could cost $3 million each month in lost revenues and additional maintenance and operating expenses--will be partially offset by Proposition A discretionary transit funds, Holen said.

The 50-cent tickets are not valid for use on the Metro Blue Line.
