DANA POINT : City to Host Cultural Funding Workshop

Residents interested in developing an arts program or project can learn how to raise money by attending a cultural funding workshop June 8.

Sponsored by the city, the workshop advises organizations and individuals on applying for a grant from the Dana Point Cultural Funding Commission. The city has set aside $50,000 this year to bolster the arts in Dana Point.

The workshop will be at 7 p.m. in City Council chambers, 33282 Street of the Golden Lantern.

City officials say the program is aimed at groups that have never applied and those who have previously been turned down for the city grant.

“This is a real opportunity for all those wanting to learn the nuts and bolts of the application process before submitting an application,” said Wendy Lockwood-Larson, chairwoman of the Dana Point Cultural Commission. “We’re hoping for a good turnout at the workshop.”

At the workshop, topics such as the history and purpose of the city cultural program will be discussed. Organizers will also conduct a detailed review of the application, point out elements that make an organization attractive to funding decision-makers and talk about what information to include that is not requested by the application.
