A multi-agency task force charged with investigating riot-related crimes has established a special hot-line number so citizens can call in tips.

The hot line (1-800-854-TIPS) will be staffed 24 hours a day, and will have operators who can speak English, Spanish and Korean.

“The success of criminal investigations is dependent on citizen involvement,” task force officials said in a prepared statement. “The identities of citizens assisting the task force can be kept confidential. Anonymous information will also be accepted.”

Task force officials also asked people with film, videotape or photographs of criminal acts committed during the rioting to contact the hot line so investigators can arrange to review the material.

The task force includes more than 100 investigators from the FBI, the U.S. attorney’s office, the Los Angeles Police Department and other state and local agencies. It was created shortly after the riots and is spearheading the investigations of riot-related crimes.

The task force hot line operators also can refer crime victims to programs that provide reimbursement to those injured during the rioting.
