City officials agreed Tuesday to sale of the landmark Mission Inn to a Philadelphia hotelier who said the 89-year-old hostelry will reopen in mid-September.

Riverside redevelopment officials said the inn will be sold to John K. Desmond for $14 million. Desmond’s firm owns several enterprises, including the Desmond, a luxury hotel in Albany, N.Y.

The Mission Inn opened in 1903 as a resort hotel. Taken over by the city of Riverside after financial troubles, the inn is listed as a National Historic Landmark.
