After the Riots / NEWS IN BRIEF : GOVERNMENT AID : Nonprofit Groups Eligible for Help
As a result of the presidential declaration of Los Angeles County as a disaster area, state and federal financial assistance may be available to nonprofit organizations that suffered losses or damage to their facilities.
To be eligible for federal funding, the organizations must perform essential governmental public services and have tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.
Facilities that may be eligible include volunteer fire departments, health care institutions, custodial care organizations, educational facilities and other private nonprofit facilities that provide space for such public uses as day care or senior citizen centers. Agencies affected by the riot may call (818) 405-7351 to apply for assistance.
