Ralph Backstrom, coach of the Kings’ minor league affiliate, the Phoenix Roadrunners, resigned to pursue other opportunities.
The Kings also announced that center Robert Lang and defensman Tim Watters had signed contracts. Lang, 21, played last season on the Czechoslovakian national team in the 1992 Winter Olympics.
