A Greek Mirage jet fighter crashed Thursday while trying to intercept a pair of Turkish jets that allegedly entered Greek airspace over the Aegean Sea, and the pilot was killed, the air force said.

Greece blamed Turkey, saying its fighter jets “were in violation of national airspace and international flight principles of civil aviation.” Turkey denied responsibility. The two North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies have longstanding disputes over airspace and military control of the Aegean Sea.
