Police on Friday disclosed the name of a woman shot to death in the driver’s seat of her sports car on an upscale street in Marina del Rey early Thursday morning, but they said they still know little about her and have no suspects in the shooting.

The slain woman was identified as Karen Dee Cook, 23, of Marina del Rey. Lt. Ross Moen of the Los Angeles Police Department said police did not know how long she had lived there. He said her family lives in Oregon.

Cook died from a single gunshot wound to the upper body, Moen said. She was found in the driver’s seat of her 1992 Chevrolet Corvette about 1 a.m. Thursday after residents reported hearing gunshots and a car crash on Via Dolce, just south of Washington Street. Cook’s car ran into a parked car; police do not know if she was shot before the crash, Moen said.

Police were trying to determine if the shot was fired from another car, Moen said.
