VAN NUYS : Man Riding in Car Is Fatally Shot
A Van Nuys man was fatally shot while riding in a car behind a Van Nuys apartment complex, police said Monday.
Joaquin Salinas, 19, died Sunday after he was shot once in the upper body. Jose Anaya, 52, a resident of the apartment complex in the 7500 block of Fulton Avenue was being held without bail on suspicion of murder at Van Nuys Jail, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Craig Rungaitis said.
The motive for the shooting is unknown, Rungaitis said.
Salinas was riding in a car traveling north in the alley behind Anaya’s complex about 7 p.m. when he was shot.
The driver of the car took Salinas to Salinas’ apartment on Vanowen Street and called 911, Rungaitis said.
Salinas was pronounced dead at the apartment.
The driver took police to the apartment complex where the shooting occurred and witnesses led them to Anaya.
