VAN NUYS : 3 Children Left by Parents in Motel
Los Angeles police are looking for the parents of three small children who were discovered in a Van Nuys motel Thursday afternoon, 15 hours after the parents had left them unsupervised in a room the family had taken shortly after midnight Wednesday.
The children, whose names were withheld by authorities, are a girl, 7, and her brother and sister, both 4, police said. They have been placed in the care of the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services, said Detective Craig Rhudy, who investigates juvenile cases for the Van Nuys division.
The parents, using a Malibu home address, checked into the Travelodge motel on Sepulveda Boulevard at 1 a.m. Thursday and were observed driving away at 2 a.m., Rhudy said. Motel officials notified police at 5 p.m. Thursday, five hours past checkout time, after finding the children inside the room.
