LOCAL NOTES : Booth Advances in Western Junior Golf

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza won her first-round match of the Women’s Western Golf Assn. junior championship Tuesday at Blackhawk Country Club in Madison, Wis.

Booth, who will be a junior at Santa Margarita High in the fall, defeated Sarah Hilmoe of Coon Rapids, Minn., 6 and 5, to advance to the round of 16 today. Monday, Booth qualified first by shooting an even-par 72.

The two other Orange County players lost in match play Tuesday. Candy Hannemann of Rio de Janeiro beat Alicia Allison of Santa Ana, 1-up, and Joellyn Erdmann of Kaukauna, Wis., beat Susie Park of Buena Park, 6 and 5.

Tom Rogozinski of Hagerstown, Md., won the 32nd stage of the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace and cut into the overall lead of Huntington Beach’s David Warady.

Rogozinski finished the 60.15-mile stage, the longest of the race, from Atwood to Norton, Kan., in 9 hours 5 minutes 43 seconds, cutting more than two hours off the overall lead of Warady, who finished fifth in 11:17:48. Rogozinski now trails Warady by 3:48:48.

The runners have now completed 1,426.4 miles.
