DANA POINT : Activists Halt Recall Targeting Krause

A recent effort by City Councilwoman Eileen Krause that helped disband the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency has prompted local activists to halt a recall effort against her.

Krause, a resident of Monarch Bay, asked that the city staff study the pros and cons of disbanding the Redevelopment Agency and to report back to the council. After the report was delivered Tuesday night, the five-member council voted unanimously to shut down the agency.

“(Krause) has sparked a degree of confidence in her willingness to listen to the people,” said Bonnie Streeter, one of the leaders of the recall group. “We hope she is more willing to listen, anyway. We will see if that continues to grow.”

Streeter said her group will continue to target City Councilman Mike Eggers for recall, claiming that he has blocked their efforts to put the city’s General Plan to a citywide vote. Although Eggers also voted to dissolve the Redevelopment Agency, Streeter said she still plans to petition against him.

“Krause initiated the process. Eggers just jumped on the bandwagon,” Streeter said. “There’s a whale of a difference.

For a recall vote to be held, the petitioners must collect 3,581 signatures, a number representing 20% of the city’s registered voters, by Nov. 3.
