The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people--a fisherman who suffered a heart attack and a cruise ship passenger who had a stroke--five hours apart Friday near Cedros Island in Mexico.

About 8 a.m., the tuna seiner Don Tomas reported that a 44-year-old Lakewood man had suffered a heart attack about 300 miles southwest of San Diego. A Coast Guard cutter in the area sent a helicopter to the boat. After emergency medical treatment, the man was flown to UCSD Medical Center by 3:30 p.m.

About 1 p.m., the cruise ship Enchanted Isle reported that a 62-year-old man had suffered a stroke about 270 miles southwest of San Diego. The Coast Guard did not know where the man had been hospitalized.
