BARCELONA ’92 OLYMPICS : NO MAGIC MARKERS
- Share via
Concerning that potential controversy over Nike-sponsored Michael Jordan (and others?) refusing to wear Reebok-provided USA uniforms at Olympic award ceremonies, this statement was issued Tuesday by Dave Gavitt, president of USA basketball:
“In the event the men’s basketball team wins a medal, all members will appear on the medal platform in the uniform issued by the United States Olympic Committee.
“Some players may choose to wear the awards’ suit in a manner that does not reveal any commercial identification. However, in no instance will the uniform be defaced or covered by any other material.”
So it can’t say eebok or Reeb or anything.
Again, that’s in the event the men’s basketball team wins a medal.
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday and Baltimore Sun, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
