THOUSAND OAKS : Council Won’t Hold Emergency Review

The Thousand Oaks City Council on Thursday refused to call an emergency meeting to review the design of a Circuit City store that has drawn complaints from neighboring residents.

The council is unable to meet next week as requested because most of its members have planned out-of-town trips, Mayor Robert E. Lewis said in a written statement.

Lewis was unavailable for comment. In the statement, he said the city will make public to any concerned resident a chronology and description of the project, including architecture styles, materials and colors.

For a week, a group of residents has picketed the site where workers are constructing the store at the corner of Hillcrest Drive and Lynn Road.

Residents complained that the cinder-block walls of the structure resemble a prison and shut out views of the surrounding mountains. They have collected more than 2,300 signatures on petitions calling for the city to review the project before it is completed.

Don Davis, a spokesman for Concerned Citizens of Thousand Oaks, said he was disappointed in the city’s action.
