Sherri Steinhauer, winless in seven years on the LPGA tour, sank a 50-foot putt on the final hole to tie leading money-winner Dottie Mochrie at three-under-par 68 for the first-round lead in the LPGA Stratton Mountain Classic at Stratton Mountain, Vt.

Steinhauer’s curving putt from the fringe put her in the same position she held last Sunday entering the final round of the Bay State Classic--tied with Mochrie, the hottest player on the tour. Mochrie won that event as Steinhauer fell to third.
