Two sisters remained hospitalized Monday after being struck by a car while trying to cross Coast Highway, police said.
Stacey Schaffer, 23, of Vista and her sister, Michelle Schaffer, 25, of Irvine were running south across Coast Highway on Sunday when they were hit by a 1988 Volkswagen that was traveling west, police said. The accident occurred near the Newport Boulevard intersection shortly before 9 p.m.
Both women suffered broken left legs and arms and internal injuries, police said. Michelle Schaffer was flown by helicopter to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Her sister was taken by ambulance to the same hospital. Both remained hospitalized Monday, but hospital officials said their family requested that their conditions not be released.
No one was cited in the accident while the investigation continued, police said.
