Despite months of lobbying by the business community, the Air Quality Management District governing board has managed to stand firm against efforts to shift the responsibility for cleaning up the air to the already overburdened vehicle owners (Aug. 8).

Claims by industry that unemployment in California is due to environmental regulations are unfounded if we examine the effects of the recession on the rest of the country, which is suffering as much or more than Californians.

Thank you, AQMD, for restoring my faith in at least one area of government.
