Deer Hits Plane Wheels, Forcing Crash-Landing
A deer bolted across a runway at Canada’s busiest airport and struck a small plane as it came in for landing, crippling the landing gear, an airport spokesman said Thursday.
The pilot pulled up over Toronto’s Pearson International Airport with his nose wheels dangling uselessly, and then crash-landed the twin-engine Cessna 310 safely. The deer died.
Airport authorities plan to trap and remove up to 25 white-tailed deer living in a wooded area close to the runways because they jump the eight-foot security fences when chased by coyotes or other predators, Reid said.
