ON THE RISE: Ridership is up on the county’s commuter train, but who pays the $126 to $246 a month for the ride to Los Angeles? The Orange County Transportation Authority says two-thirds are male, three-fourths are professionals or managers and nearly half have a household income of at least $80,000 a year. . . . Will train commuting ever be cheap enough for the hourly worker? Probably not, says an OCTA planner. “Under state law, fares have to cover 40% of operating costs. They’ll always be in the general range they’re in now.”
