This Isn’t Whey to Woo Officials

SAN DIEGO — Dannon Co. has agreed to a $103,042 penalty because some of the yogurt cups it sold in California were under-filled, city officials said Tuesday.
The 8-ounce containers were less than a third of an ounce short, Deputy City Atty. Michael D. Rivo said.
Dannon quickly removed the products from the shelf and fixed the problem, which was caused by an equipment malfunction at its Ft. Worth, Tex., plant, Rivo said. It donated the under-filled packages to nonprofit organizations.
The problem probably existed across the state, Rivo added. “It was our understanding that all of the product distributed in California was coming from (the Texas) plant,” he said.
