OUTLOOK

One of the Rebels’ biggest losses was the graduation of quarterback Brad Belanger, the league’s “back of the year” last season. Waldrop, a wide receiver, has moved to quarterback to fill the gap. “Paul has come in and worked very, very hard,” DiPalma said. Cunningham is replacing graduated Jeff Ragos, who rushed for 1,086 yards last season. Savanna also doesn’t have much size, with the exception of Johnson, who is expected to step in and anchor the offensive and defensive lines. The Rebels also will play eight or nine underclassmen on both offense and defense. “We should be competitive,” DiPalma said. “We’re going to be very, very young and we’re going to have to develop quickly.” The Rebels’ league schedule might work in their favor. They play host to Anaheim and Magnolia and play at Western before meeting the league’s traditional powers--Valencia and Brea-Olinda.
