*OUTLOOK

The Mustangs, ranked No. 1 in Division VIII preseason poll, feature one of the county’s best quarterbacks in Barnes, who led them to the Division VII title game last season. Laguna Hills’ linemen overpowered Trabuco Hills’ offensive line in the finals, a fact that concerns Barnett heading into this season. “We had a lot of linemen who shouldn’t have been playing yet,” Barnett said. “They weren’t ready yet, strength-wise or experience-wise. If they improve, that should make it easier on Pat.” O’Farrell, Dilday and Koford are all returning starters on the line. As for the passing game, Barnes will have plenty of experienced receivers in Graham (38 catches for 623 yards last season) and Rechner, who played a lot as a sophomore. Ford and Galasso will try to fill the void left by graduated running back Jeff Clayton (803 yards last season).
