Nike Should Stress Jobs, Not Family Values

Now, the ad world has taken up the family values issue, “Nike Does It Again: Firm Targets Blacks With a Spin on ‘Family Values’ ” (Aug. 25).

Nike has done more to hurt the black family than help. (The negative depiction of black males in the ad) reinforces stereotypes. Many people already feel this way about the African-American male. If an American black male can’t get a job, how can he have any family values?

If Nike wants to stress family togetherness, why don’t they stress jobs? You can’t have a family if you don’t have a job.
