The article, “Rights Lesson Read in Century-Old Hanging” (Aug. 31), reported that the Francisco Torres lynching 100 years ago was the last one to occur in California. Incorrect.

In 1933, a large crowd stormed the San Jose city jail, removed and dragged two men across the street to a park, where they were hanged from trees. Their crime: the kidnaping and murder of Brooke Hart, a prominent local citizen.
