The Tragedy of GM Closing

The closing of the Van Nuys GM plant is another example of what happened to the U.S. industrial complex during the administrations of Presidents Reagan and Bush.

Our government should not allow our industrial complexes to leave the United States so that greedy CEOs and their stockholders can make exorbitant salaries and profits with no concern for the job loss to our workers. Today there are more than 2,500 Van Nuys workers who have lost their jobs to Canada.

The primary interest of the President should be seeing that the United States has a stable work force, even if it means subsidizing an industry to keep it in the country. Foreign governments like Japan and Germany do this. Why don’t we?
