A two-alarm blaze broke out in a boarded-up building in downtown San Diego on Sunday morning, sending one transient to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to the San Diego Fire Department.

The fire, which started at 6:20 a.m., burned the third and fourth floors of a former apartment building in the 1300 block of 12th Street. In recent months, firefighters have responded to four fires at the building. Though the building has been boarded up for several months, a number of transients live there, officials said.
