Six people sustained minor injuries Sunday when their pickup truck flipped on its side on the road leading out of Lake Piru Recreation Area, authorities said. At least eight people were in the truck when the accident occurred about 6 p.m. on Piru Canyon Road, said Ventura County Fire Capt. George Hatt.

The six injured people were taken by ambulance to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital. A nursing supervisor at the hospital said Sunday night that the injuries appeared to be minor and that she expected all of the victims to be treated and released.

When firefighters and ambulance crews arrived, they found the truck’s passengers sitting near the scene of the accident and the truck’s driver trapped in the cab with his legs pinned under the seat, Hatt said. “We had to cut his seat belts off him” before the driver was able to climb out of the truck, he said.
