Hideo Gosha, 63, a film director who achieved success in Hollywood as well as Japan. Born in Tokyo and a graduate of Meiji University, Gosha first worked in radio for Nippon Broadcasting, then transferred to Fuji Television. He was one of the first Japanese directors to move from television to feature films. Utilizing gangster plots and innovative sword fighting, Gosha’s best-known films in the United States are “Goyokin” in 1969, “The Wolves” in 1971, “Hunter in the Dark” in 1979, “Onimasa” in 1983, and “Four Days of Snow and Blood.” On Aug. 30 in Kyoto City, Japan, of cancer.
