The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved an additional $270,000 in budget cuts. Included are $50,000 from the city’s maintenance budget and $30,000 from the municipal newsletter.

Also cut were $4,000 in operational funds from the Police Department and $2,000 from the Fire Department. Deputy City Treasurer Ronald Clark said the police cuts might eliminate some training programs but will not affect personnel or equipment.

In addition, City Manager Martin Lomeli, the assistant city manager, five department heads and seven mid-level managers have agreed to take 5% pay cuts, which are expected to save the city $40,000 annually.

In June, the council cut $1 million in programs to help balance the city’s $11.5 million spending plan.
