BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Committee to Hear Giant Boosters
Angel owner Jackie Autry and other representatives of baseball’s executive council will be in San Francisco today to hear the group attempting to keep the Giants in the Bay Area.
“We need to get the process moving,” Autry said Tuesday night. “We need to find out if San Francisco is serious. The people in Tampa need an answer.”
Bill White, National League president; Fred Kuhlmann of the St. Louis Cardinals, ownership committee chairman; and Haywood Sullivan, Boston Red Sox executive, will join Autry in meeting with Walter Shorenstein, a minority partner in the San Francisco group that has yet to submit an offer for the Giants. A group from Tampa-St. Petersburg has offered Giants owner Bob Lurie $115 million.
