Orange Coast got its first shutout against Golden West in 27 meetings Saturday with a 29-0 victory, and Chornomud led the defensive charge from his inside linebacker position.

Chornomud, who is 6 feet 1 and 230 pounds, was in on 18 tackles--nine unassisted--for the Pirates. Three of his tackles were for losses, and he also recovered a fumble that set up an OCC touchdown.

Chornomud leads the Pirates in tackles with 71 in only five games. He holds a commanding lead over fellow OCC linebacker Dan Petrone, who is second with 41.

Other top performers:

Irvine Valley’s Keith Rosenberg and Jeff Rynders, who had three goals each as the Lasers beat Cypress, 8-4, in an Orange Empire Conference soccer match.

Saddleback wide receiver Eddie Thompson, who caught four passes for 79 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass as the Gauchos beat Rancho Santiago, 49-7.
