Emergency personnel rescued a teen-ager from a cave in the Santa Susana Hills above Simi Valley on Wednesday after the boy was injured, authorities said.

The 17-year-old San Fernando Valley youth had been hiking with friends in one of several caves east of Santa Susana Park when he fell about 10 feet, receiving injuries to his face, said Sandi Wells, a spokeswoman for the Ventura County Fire Department.

The youth’s six friends summoned help after the 7 p.m. accident, and county firefighters and a County Sheriff’s search-and-rescue team responded to the scene on a hillside behind a home on Live Oak Trail, Wells said.

Rescue personnel reached the unidentified teen-ager, who had fallen to a spot about 40 feet inside the cave entrance, about an hour after the incident was reported, she said.
