Edison used strong defense to win the Sunset League girls’ volleyball title Thursday with a 15-12, 6-15, 15-1, 15-3 victory over host Huntington Beach.

This is the 10th consecutive season that Edison (15-1, 13-1 in league) will reach the playoffs. Huntington Beach (11-3 in league) could have tied for the Sunset title with a victory.

Edison was led by Alicia Liniger, who is 6 feet 4 and proved to be the difference in the last two games for the Chargers. Liniger, who had seven assists and a solo block, helped control Huntington Beach’s top hitter, Deana Itow.

Itow had a team-high 14 kills but was stopped three times at key moments in the final game.

Liniger was able to use her height to dominate at the net on offense as well, finishing with a match-high 18 kills. Only three teammates also had kills.
