HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SOUTHERN SECTION ROUNDUP : GOLDEN LEAGUE
Antelope Valley 30, Quartz Hill 27--Running back Heath Renfro rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns and returned a blocked punt 17 yards for a touchdown as the Antelopes clinched the league title at home.
Quartz Hill (3-6, 2-2) took a 13-8 lead in the second quarter when James Welch scored on a 14-yard toss from Brad Norris. Norris completed 12 of 25 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns.
But Antelope Valley (6-3, 4-0) came back less than three minutes later as C.J. Fagan (47 yards in 11 carries) ran 18 yards for a touchdown.
The Antelopes stretched the lead to 23-13 with 26 seconds remaining in the first half when Keith Schiele blocked a punt by Bryan Bailey and Renfro ran it 17 yards for a touchdown.
Quartz Hill closed to within three points on the second play of its first drive of the second half as Norris connected with Brad Breckenridge for a 60-yard touchdown. But Antelope Valley scored just 1:38 later when Renfro ran in for a one-yard score.
