Woman Killed in Accident on I-805

One woman died and eight other women and children were injured when their car collided with another on a South Bay freeway, struck a pole and overturned, the California Highway Patrol reported Wednesday.

Jeanett Pearl Ford, 25, of Logan Heights, a passenger in the late model Mercury, was thrown from the car and killed, authorities said.

The CHP said the Tuesday afternoon accident occurred in National City on the ramp connecting westbound California 54 to southbound Interstate 805, where the ramp narrows from two lanes to one.

Authorities said a Hyundai driven by Lenmoy Walls, 27, of Spring Valley collided with the Mercury, which carried nine people. Walls, the only occupant of the Hyundai, was not injured, officials said.

Investigators said some of the people in the Mercury were thrown from the car. Two women were taken by Life Flight helicopter to UC San Diego Medical Center. Debbie Ford, 19, was treated and released Tuesday, and Annette Ford, 22, was described in fair condition Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The Mercury’s driver, Heather Jackson, 18, and passenger Maria Ford, 21, were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista, where they were treated and released. Four children ages 10 months to 5 years who were treated for minor injuries.

No citations were issued and there is no indication that alcohol or excessive speed were involved in the accident, the CHP said.
