HOLLYWOOD : Homes Evacuated After Dynamite Found in Yard
About a dozen homes were evacuated Wednesday in the Hollywood Hills after a man found two cases of dynamite buried in his yard.
“It’s very unstable stuff,” said Los Angeles police bomb squad Detective Duane Schube, as bomb experts hauled away the boxes of stick dynamite. “It’s a nitroglycerin-based explosive that’s apparently been there since 1941.”
Explosives experts were sent to the 2400 block of Creston Way about 10:15 a.m. to dispose of the ordnance, which was discovered by a homeowner digging in his yard, Schube said. “There’s no crime here,” Schube said. “We just want to be safe.” He said it was unclear why the dynamite was buried in the yard.
Police said residents were expected to be allowed back in their homes sometime Thursday evening.
