Volunteers are needed for the Orange County Academic Decathlon on Saturday at Foothill High School in Santa Ana.

The decathlon needs proctors to administer tests from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and speech and interview judges from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The judges work in teams of two or three.

A preliminary packet of instructions will be given each volunteer, and an orientation will be held Saturday to review procedures.

No experience is necessary, but organizers hope to recruit “adults who can be objective, yet supportive of students who come from diverse backgrounds and ability levels,” a decathlon spokeswoman said.

The decathlon is an academic competition in 10 subject areas for students in 11th and 12th grades. Fifty-two public and private schools will compete for the chance to represent Orange County in the state competition.
