Saberhagen Golf Fund-Raiser Scheduled
Entries are being taken for the annual Bret Saberhagen golf tournament, a fund-raiser for athletics at Cleveland High, the alma mater of the New York Mets’ right-handed pitcher.
The tournament will be held Jan. 25 at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge. Four-man teams and individuals are welcome. Proceeds from the tournament are earmarked for baseball equipment and the purchase of a batting cage.
The entry fee includes a continental breakfast, greens fees, electric cart, beverages, range balls and a steak dinner after the tournament.

Chaminade running back Justin Giovannettone was named the Mission League most valuable player. Giovannettone led the Eagles with 1,474 yards and 22 touchdowns in 226 carries. He also caught 37 passes for 387 yards.
Giovannettone had a streak of nine consecutive 100-yard rushing games, the last occurring in Chaminade’s league title-clinching victory over Notre Dame.
