THOUSAND OAKS : Ex-U. N. Envoy to Open Lecture Series

Former United Nations Ambassador Jeane J. Kirkpatrick will open the 1993 Conejo Valley Lecture Series on the Jewish Experience with an address on current events Dec. 5, sponsors of the event have announced.

The fifth annual series of lectures on Jewish themes is sponsored by the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles and the Conejo Valley Consortium of Jewish Organizations. The program will be held at Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks.

Kirkpatrick, who was also a member of President Reagan’s Cabinet, is a professor at Georgetown University, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a syndicated columnist.

A strong supporter of the state of Israel, Kirkpatrick is the first non-Jew to deliver an address in the lecture series, event spokeswoman Sheri Diamond-Ginis said.

After Kirkpatrick’s talk, the series will continue Jan. 24 with an address by Tova Mordechai on her return to the Jewish faith after a Christian upbringing. On March 21, the series will feature the American Jewish Song Festival with music conducted by Sam Glaser.

Rabbi Joseph Tellushkin, a scholar, lecturer and author of the books “Jewish Humor” and “Jewish Literacy,” will deliver the final address of the 1993 Conejo Valley Lecture Series on May 2.

Tickets for Kirkpatrick’s address will cost $20, while the other lectures will cost $15 each.

Tickets to attend all four lectures are available for $50. For $125, series patrons can attend all four lectures and a dinner for Kirkpatrick before her appearance.
