La Mirada Beats Trabuco Hills With Late Surge

Going into the fourth quarter, it was anybody’s game.

But La Mirada’s offense sparked and scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to advance to the Division VIII semifinals, posting a 35-21 victory over Trabuco Hills Friday night at La Mirada High School.

“We just got outplayed,” Trabuco Hills Coach Jim Barnett said. “La Mirada’s just a good football team.”

The Matadors (8-4) limited the Mustangs to seven second-half points and sacked Trabuco Hills quarterback Pat Barnes five times.

The senior quarterback provided most of Trabuco Hills’ offense, completing 15 of 29 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 83 yards in 13 carries.

Senior Cordell Graham was Barnes’ main target, catching seven passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

La Mirada quarterback Mike Moschetti was equally impressive, completing 16 of 18 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns.

La Mirada also had a strong running attack to complement Moschetti’s passing. Ryan Hura rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Hura also caught three passes for 39 yards and two touchdowns.
