OUTLOOK
The Falcons labored through their nonleague schedule, then surprised everyone by finishing as co-champions with El Modena. Prospero thinks this year’s team could be even better. “In every aspect, we’re a better team,” he said. “Shooting, quickness, experience, strength, ball handling, you name it, we’re better. Except for mental toughness. I have some questions about that.” The answers will come during the nonleague schedule. “We’ll know by league,” Prospero said. Porter, the team’s floor leader, and Serrano, the league’s co-MVP, give the Falcons a solid base. Porter averaged 11 points last season; Serrano averaged 10 points and eight rebounds. Jermaine Robinson has improved and will be counted on to score more. The Falcons spent plenty of time in the weight room this summer and have eight players who can bench press 200 pounds or better. They also have the advantage of having played the entire summer under Prospero, who did not receive the job until November last year. The Falcons are now well versed in his press-and-run philosophy. Jovan Robinson, a transfer from Mississippi, was a surprise find. He was at Santa Ana Valley as a freshman and sophomore. But how much he helps is yet to be seen.
