BEVERLY HILLS : Preliminary Hearing Set for Brothers in Murder Case
A Municipal Court judge has set Dec. 9 as a preliminary hearing date for two brothers accused of killing their wealthy parents in Beverly Hills.
Lyle and Erik Menendez, held without bail since the August, 1989, murders of Jose and Kitty Mendendez, appeared briefly in Beverly Hills Municipal Court for the procedural hearing.
The trial has been delayed by prosecution efforts to use audiotapes made by the brothers’ psychologist. In August the state Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors could seek to admit as evidence taped notes of two sessions in which the brothers allegedly made incriminating statements.
Last week the court denied a prosecutors’ petition for a rehearing to use other recordings.
