GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Western Uses Defense to Defeat Kennedy
Tight defense and consistent shooting advanced Western to the finals of the Fullerton Tip-off Classic girls’ basketball tournament with a 35-30 victory over Kennedy on Friday.
The Pioneers will face Katella for the championship today at 2:30 p.m.
Western outrebounded Kennedy, 46-30; Kwanzaa Gison had 22 and Charlotte Watley 17 for the Pioneers.
The score was tied, 5-5, after the first quarter, but Western stopped Kennedy for more than five minutes in the second, scoring eight consecutive points and taking a 20-10 halftime lead.
Kennedy closed to within 28-22 after three quarters, but Western continued to rebound and play good defense to hang on. Three Pioneers had four fouls each at the end of the game.
