OUTLOOK
The Tillers reached the semifinals of the Division II-AA playoffs last season, but have little back from that team. Among the missing is Coach Tom McCluskey, who is now an assistant at Saddleback College. Ground was an assistant for the Tillers last season and inherits a talented, but mostly inexperienced team. “I feel good about this team, I just don’t want other coaches to feel good about it,” Ground said. “I don’t know how good or how bad we will be, but I feel we have some talent.” Especially in Matthews and Scheuerman , who figure to provide plenty of scoring punch. Matthews is a transfer from Mater Dei, where he got lost in the crowd. Scheuerman was brought up to the varsity last season for the playoffs and made the game-winning free throws in a 50-48 victory over Gahr in the second round. “I think Rod is going to surprise a lot of people,” Ground said. “He can flat out score.” The rest of the cast is a still undetermined. Reynolds returns after being dismissed from the team last season. He displayed some ability early in the the season and could be a solid contributor. But how much and for how long is unknown. “I think we have good shooters and some unselfish players,” Ground said. “But we need to overcome our inexperience.”
