Man Fatally Shot in Robbery Near Border
A 28-year-old man from Mexico was fatally shot in the head early Saturday in San Ysidro, possibly by border bandits, police said.
Angel Rodriguez Chavez, 28, was found dead in a culvert on the west side of Interstate 5, about a quarter-mile north of Dairy Mart Road, police said. Residents and witnesses in the area who heard the shots at 2 a.m. told police they saw three or four men run from the scene.
“It apparently occurred during a robbery,” said police spokesman Bill Robinson. “He apparently was with five or six other immigrants.”
Police said there are no suspects and no one is in custody.
