‘Old Man Bandit’ Hits Again Outside Bank
A fast-food restaurant employee became the latest victim of an armed robber dubbed “The Old Man Bandit” who is suspected of committing at least 30 robberies in the Glendale and Burbank area, the Burbank Police Department said Saturday.
“He just doesn’t look like a crook,” Burbank Police Lt. Art Moody said. “He just looks like some old guy walking down the street.”
Police suspect that this year alone the same man, described as between 50 and 60 years old with a fishing hat and wire-rim glasses, has robbed six customers at gunpoint as they entered the Bank of America at 303 N. Glenoaks Blvd. in Burbank, Moody said. Detectives said they believe the same bandit has taken more than $45,000 in a three-year string of robberies.
“You just never know when he’s going to be there,” Moody said. “He doesn’t do it every week or every month, but when he does . . . he does about the same thing.”
In each robbery the man stands at the doorway of a bank and awaits his victims, typically restaurant employees on their way to deposit business receipts. The man brandishes a gun and “they look surprised and hand him the money,” Moody said.
The most recent robbery was Friday about 10 a.m. at the Bank of America in Burbank, Moody said. No one has been injured in any of the robberies.
