Cronkite Contract: Veteran broadcaster Walter Cronkite, 76, has signed a three-year, exclusive deal with Discovery Communications, parent company of the Discovery Channel and the Learning Channel. Under the arrangement, Cronkite’s appearances on other cable networks will be limited to miscellaneous projects already in production. Cronkite will serve as anchor and executive producer of a new quarterly series of specials on national and international issues on the Discovery Channel, titled “Walter Cronkite’s World,” as well as executive editor of “Understanding,” a quarterly series on the Learning Channel explaining complicated science projects. Cronkite also will be executive editor of an upcoming Learning Channel series titled “Great Books.” The deal does not affect Cronkite’s existing contract with CBS News.
